GALLIM, the internationally acclaimed company led by choreographer and artistic director Andrea Miller, will return to The Joyce Theater November 11–15, 2026, with a four-work program spanning nearly a decade of Miller’s choreographic vision. The season features new creations alongside works from Miller’s repertoire, as well as the first original work GALLIM has commissioned from a guest choreographer.

The evening opens with Miller’s state, commissioned by A.I.M by Kyle Abraham and premiered at The Joyce in 2018. Performed by three women and set to music by pop artist RIVKA, state explores five states of womanhood, moving between the individual experiences of its performers and the connections they build to support one another. Through a series of solos and shared experiences, the work considers lineage, suffering and the ways women carry themselves and one another forward.

Miller will also premiere a new solo set to The Cranberries’ Dreams. Inspired by the song’s epic scale and the power of a single voice to fill it, the work explores how one body and individual presence can radiate far beyond itself.

Former GALLIM dancer Sean Howe, who recently completed his final performance with Batsheva Dance Company, will create a world premiere for seven dancers. The work marks the first time GALLIM has commissioned an original work from a guest choreographer. Set within a raw, industrial environment, the 18-minute piece unfolds across four sections, moving between darkness and light as the physical world around the dancers transforms. Playful and existential, the work explores hope, resilience and the celebration of life in all its hardship and beauty.

The evening closes with the company premiere of Miller’s YEAR, originally created for A.I.M by Kyle Abraham in 2024. While Miller’s creative process has often explored personal and collective wounds, YEAR begins from a place of the sublime, beauty and ecstasy, examining what it takes to find and remain in that state. The work considers a year as a microcosm of existence, encompassing the cycles of life and death, war and peace, tragedy and joy, loss and renewal. As these cycles repeat, YEAR explores the possibility of accepting our place within them rather than being defined by hardship. Set to an original score by Frédéric Despierre, the work will be newly adapted for GALLIM’s eight dancers.

“This season feels like a reflection of where GALLIM is right now,” says Miller. “There are works that have lived with me and continue to evolve, new ideas I’m just beginning to explore, and, for the first time, an original work we’ve commissioned from another choreographer. Sean was once a GALLIM dancer, and to welcome him back now as a choreographer feels especially meaningful. As we move toward 20 years, I want GALLIM to be a place where artists can grow, return, take risks and make something new.”

Opening night on November 11 will also mark GALLIM’s DREAM Gala, honoring peer dancemakers Camille A. Brown and Sidra Bell. Gala guests will attend the evening’s performance at The Joyce Theater followed by a post-show celebration on the rooftop of the Dream Downtown Hotel.
