This Saturday and Sunday, September 12 and 13, Adia Anselmi will present her work, Olha pra mim, at Arts On Site in downtown NYC. The work is danced by Anselmi and Chelsea Ainsworth, and explores the relationship between two bodies through physical contact, mutual support and the desire to be seen.
Inspired by a lecture by Brazilian psychiatrist José Ângelo Gaiarsa on fundamental human needs, Olha pra mim, or “Look at Me,” considers the intimacy of the gaze as a space of risk, refuge and belonging.
The duet moves between choreographed passages, shaped by texture and sensation, and more investigative moments that emerge through improvisation and intention. Within a performance space structured around a metal geodesic dome, the act of looking becomes a continuous field of relationship – between the performers, the audience, the space and the body.
Olha pra mim will be presented at NYC’s Arts On Site on Saturday, September 12 at 6pm, and on Sunday, September 13 at 5pm. The work is 30 minutes with a talk-back afterward. For tickets, visit www.artsonsite.org/tickets.
