How often do you recommend cleaning a dance floor at a studio?
“It’s important to follow a regular cleaning routine for Marley dance floors to keep them performing at their best. A non-abrasive daily cleaner, such as VARIO DailyClean, should be used every day or every other day depending on how heavily the studio is used.
For long-term maintenance, VARIO DeepClean and VARIO Protect should be used every 3-6 months to remove built-up dirt, refresh the surface and keep the floor performing its best. VARIO DeepClean can also be used as a spot cleaner for tougher areas of dirt.
In studios where tap classes are held more frequently, more regular use of VARIO DeepClean can help reduce black dust buildup and keep the floor cleaner for longer.”
What are the best steps for dance floor cleaning? How long does this usually take?
“Start by sweeping or dust mopping the floor to get rid of any loose dirt and debris. Then use a non-abrasive cleaner, working in sections so you are not flooding your floor. This will remove your daily dirt and make your deep cleaning easier. For most studios, a regular clean only takes about 10-20 minutes depending on the size of the space and how much use the floor gets. If you’re doing a deeper clean or spot-treating tougher areas, it may take a little longer, but routine care keeps it quick and manageable. What are other elements of maintenance that studio owners should do for their dance floors (temperature control, daily sweeping or mopping, daily maintenance)?
“Daily maintenance goes a long way in keeping a dance floor in great condition. A quick dry mop each day helps prevent dust and dirt from building up and keeps the surface ready for use.
It’s also important to keep outside shoes off Marley floors, as this is one of the easiest ways to avoid scratches, scuffs and small damage over time. In addition, maintaining a stable temperature and humidity level in the studio helps the floor perform properly, preventing issues like stickiness, slipperiness or even bubbling in the Marley.”
What’s the best way to remove scuff marks or other scratches from a dance floor?
“Scuff marks are a part of life in a dance studio. It is best to try the VARIO DeepClean and VARIO Protect to remove the scuff, but the best way to deal with it is prevention. Not allowing street shoes in the studio and testing the type of shoes the dancers are using on the Marley beforehand goes a long way to keeping scuff marks off the Marley.”
What do you recommend for slippery floors?
“Slippery floors can be a result of many different factors. Temperature and humidity play a large factor. If you notice your floor is feeling sticky, try lowering the temperature and using a dehumidifier to remove extra moisture. If your floor is too slippery, it may be too cold!
Slippery floors can also be a result of built-up dirt that you may not know is there! Going through a round with the VARIO DeepClean will remove extra stubborn dirt. Following up with the VARIO Protect will give your floor a clean, even textured surface.”
