The National Center for Choreography-Akron (NCCAkron)has launched the seventh season of Inside the Dancer’s Studio, a podcast that brings listeners into the process of creating dance. Through interviews with choreographers from across the United States, Inside the Dancer’s Studio breaks down the mystique of dance-making into engaging, fun, and deeply human conversations, exploring how artists express through creation and performance.
New episodes are released each Friday beginning July 3, 2026 on most streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
Artists featured in Season 7 include Charles O. Anderson (Columbus, OH), Ananya Chatterjea (St. Paul, MN), Ryan K. Johnson (Columbus, OH), Jean Appolon (Boston, MA), Sean Dorsey (San Francisco, CA), Netta Yerushalmy (New York, NY), Amanda Castro, Arielle Rosales, and Brinda Guha of Soles of Duende (New York, NY), Michael Love (Philadelphia, PA), Yayoi Kambara (San Francisco, CA), Angelina Ramirez (Tucson, AZ), Carlos Menchaca (Albuquerque, NM), and Aparna, Ranee, and Ashwini Ramaswamy of Ragamala Dance Company (Minneapolis, MN).
The podcast’s host, NCCAkron Founding Executive/Artistic Director Christy Bolingbroke (Akron, OH), poses a series of questions about craft, process, and perseverance to each interviewee, including: Where do they start with a new work? What do they do if they find themselves stuck, creatively? These episodes are perfect for dancers, dancemakers, students, creatives, or anyone who has ever built something from scratch.
“As we round the corner of our 10th anniversary, this latest podcast season includes returning NCCAkron alumni and new-to-us voices.” says Bolingbroke. “Always in curatorial dialogue with both the field and our organizational history, I’m particularly delighted that this season includes several artists working in and around percussive dance, with conversations that emphasize creative relationships to sound and rhythm both onstage and off.”
Inside the Dancer’s Studio is part of NCCAkron’s commitment to artist-led storytelling. In 2021, NCCAkron established the publishing umbrella NCCMedia,an artist-centered and artist-driven platform for telling stories and elevating the voices of dance artists and genres historically left out of the codified dance canon. The NCCMedia podcasts, including Inside the Dancer’s Studio and How People Move People, build a bridge between 20th-century working knowledge and 21st-century arts ecosystem – documenting untold stories and creating a humanities archive for future dance audiences, students, and scholars.
