New York City’s longest-running free public dance festival, the Battery Dance Festival was launched by the company in 1982 (originally as the Downtown Dance Festival) to engage its local lower Manhattan community. Held against the stunning backdrop of the Hudson River at sunset in Robert F. Wagner Jr. Park, it attracts approximately 1,500 in-person attendees each night. The festival is also livestreamed, reaching thousands of viewers worldwide.

The Battery Dance Festival offers professional dancers and choreographers in any genre a remarkable platform to present original works of high artistic merit in an accessible, open-air setting. Past performers have included the Isadora Duncan Dance Company, New York Theatre Ballet, Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, Citadel + Compagnie, Dancing Earth Indigenous Dance Company, SOLE Defined, and Jamal Jackson Dance Company, alongside leading ensembles from Africa, South Asia, East Asia, Europe, South America, and the Caribbean.
