Dance Informa Video Interview Series. Episode 5: Akira Uchida

JUMP Faculty Member Akira Uchida during his interview with Dance Informa.

In the fifth installment of our Dance Informa Video Interview Series, I had the extreme honor of interviewing an intelligent and genuine emerging dance instructor and choreographer in the midst of JUMP Dance Convention and Competition in Atlanta.

Originally from Ottawa, Canada, Akira Uchida is a kind soul that I connected with instantly. I was fortunate to watch him improvise for the interview and teach some class at JUMP. After observing him, I can say without a doubt that he is going to be inspiring young dancers at convention and beyond for a very long time. He had wise insight on how to help younger dancers connect with movement, and metaphors that I will be trying in my dance classes.

We spoke about why he loves teaching at JUMP, his choreographic process, who inspires him, and how he is open to the future and what it brings. Hear from Akira Uchida below:
