BodyVox will celebrate its 29th season in 2026–2027 with a lineup spanning Halloween-themed dance, international touring, dance film, repertory performances and opportunities for its next generation of artists. Under the theme Optimism in Motion, the Portland-based company will bring its signature combination of dance, theater and film to audiences in Oregon and beyond.
The season will begin in October with Creepy Cupcakes, an evening of Halloween-themed dance works created by six guest choreographers. The production will run October 8–10 and 15–17 at BodyVox Dance Center, offering an “eerily delightful” start to the season.
In November, BodyVox will travel to Toyama, Japan, Portland’s sister state, for a week-long cultural exchange. From November 15–21, the company will conduct nine dance workshops for approximately 600 elementary and middle school students, along with a public performance.
BodyVox co-artistic directors Jamey Hampton and Ashley Roland have made three previous trips to Japan, building relationships through collaborations and workshops. The upcoming visit continues the cultural exchange between BodyVox, Portland and Toyama.
In January, BodyVox will continue its touring and residency work with a visit to Western Oregon University, where the company will perform repertory at Rice Auditorium for the first time since 2017. During the week-long residency, WOU dance students will learn a BodyVox work to perform in their own spring production.
Back in Portland, BodyVox will present CineVox Dance Film Festival January 28–30, 2027. The three-day festival is dedicated to sharing innovative dance films from around the world, providing a forum for established and emerging artists working across a range of styles and formats.
In March, BodyVox will bring its repertory to the Liberty Theater in Astoria, Oregon, continuing its relationship with the historic venue.
April will see the company return to the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts in Beaverton for BodyVox at The Reser, a celebration of the company’s iconic repertoire. The company will also take Beautiful Everything on the road to Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.
The season will conclude in May with Mini Pearl: JAG, showcasing BodyVox’s junior company in works by an exciting roster of choreographers. Performances are scheduled for May 21–22 at BodyVox Dance Center.
Before the season officially begins, BodyVox will host its Season Sampler September 16–17 at BodyVox Dance Center. The collaborative event brings together local performing arts organizations to share excerpts from their upcoming seasons and encourage greater connection across Portland’s arts community. This year’s participants include 45th Parallel, BodyVox, Chatter PDX, NW Dance Project, Open Space, Oregon Symphony, Profile Theater, Push/Fold and Third Angle New Music.
