The sun may be shining, but Dance NOW! Miami (DNM) welcomes the chill of the South Florida holiday season with their upcoming Program I. It will feature Winter’s Breath, a ballet celebrating our coldest months, and special guest New York’s Jon Lehrer Dance Company to share the stage, featuring their dynamic, athletic and powerful modern dance style. The evening takes place Saturday, December 19 at the Coral Gable Sanctuary of the Arts.
Winter’s Breath is set to the striking sounds of Antonio Vivaldi, reimagined by Max Richter. It is a work of sweeping movement set to the crisp soundtrack and was created collaboratively by Dance NOW! Miami Co-Artistic Directors Hannah Baumgarten and Diego Salterini in 2015. The Jon Lehrer Dance Company will perform their piece, Here in Eden, a bold and poetic duet featuring Ricardo G. Barret and Cristiana Cavallo.
The one-night-only program also includes audience favorites: the evocative Point of Departure, the tender love duet from Havisham!, and Isadora Duncan’s timeless 1914 solo Ave Maria. Two new works round out the evening: the world premiere of Diego Salterini’s Deco-de, an Art Deco-inspired piece set to Gershwin’s “Lullaby” and inspired by the three archetypes of Jungian psychology, and a sneak preview of Hannah Baumgarten’s cabaret-style 1933, addressing the rise of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
“We not only excited to revive some of our repertory works, but also to have Jon’s company join us. We know he will excite South Florida audiences.” said Salterini. “And their entire company will be back in May to present a full concert!”
Dance NOW! Miami is one of Florida’s premier contemporary companies. Tickets for this special December 19 performance are $25 general admission / $15 students and seniors. Secure your seats now at www.dancenowmiami.org.
