This summer, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater offers Chicago audiences a vibrant showcase of talent, creativity, and community through a series of performances and educational programs. From student showcases to professional performances, the celebrated company highlights the power of dance to inspire and connect.
Deeply Rooted’s Summer Dance Intensive (SDI), running from June 2 to July 12, 2025, offers youth and pre-professional/professional dancers a transformative experience through a rigorous curriculum focused on personal growth and artistic development. Participants will master company repertory and new choreography by Deeply Rooted Co-Founder Gary Abbott and Ray Mercer, a Deeply Rooted alum and current cast member of Broadway’s The Lion King. The program culminates in captivating student performances on Friday, July 11 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, July 12 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts. Deeply Rooted will perform an excerpt of Artistic Director Nicole Clarke-Springer’s Sacred Spaces at the 34th annual Dance for Life, a fundraiser supporting the Chicago Dance Health Fund, which provides critical healthcare resources for Chicago’s dance community. As a founding member of the Chicago Black Dance Legacy Project, Deeply Rooted will present a new work in Unbound: Shattered Frames, Endless Visions. This dynamic performance weaves together movement, storytelling, and innovation, celebrating the profound impact of Black dance in Chicago.
