Riding on the heels of an outstanding 40th Anniversary, Hedwig Dances, the Chicago-based contemporary dance company, opens its 41st Season with NEXUS, an ambitious show featuring three premiere dances, presented April 25 & 26, 2026, at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts.

These include Moon Studies 1 & 2 by Founder/Artistic Director Jan Bartoszek (recipient of the See Chicago Dance Legacy Award), The Table of the Years by Hedwig company member Heriberto Meneses, and Our Inevitable Decay by Hedwig company member Milo Sachse-Hofheimer.

The show’s title NEXUS refers to each choreographer’s commitment to merge movement with a visual environment and to create powerful imagery that transforms the performance space in unique, unexpected ways.

Jan Bartoszek’s Moon Studies 1 & 2 is a meditation on the mysterious connections between the earth and its closest celestial companion, the moon. Through dance, costume and puppetry, this work-in-progress explores the moon’s origin story and how the moon has shaped, and continues to shape, life on earth. Bartoszek collaborates with soft sculpture artist and puppeteer Jacky Kelsey.

Heriberto Meneses’ The Table of the Years is a letter to the past, to shared memories, to the laughter and silences that only true friends may understand. This piece tells the story of people who have known each other for many years, who have shared moments of joy, pain, distance, and reunion. The work reveals how life moves on, bodies change, paths separate yet the bond between them remains.

Milo Sachse-Hofheimer’s Our Inevitable Decay, reflects on a world where the viewer shapes lies into truths. Distinct human expressions clash as the performers live within the friction of their differences, oscillating between empathy and apathy for themselves and one another. Unknowingly edging themselves closer towards the precipice, an inevitable collapse of perceived truth and a pulling back of the curtain to reveal what has been screaming back at them this whole time.

NEXUS will be staged in the theater at the Ruth Page Center, 1016 N. Dearborn, Chicago, IL. An evening show will take place on Saturday, April 25th at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee on Sunday, April 26th at 2:00 p.m. Ticket prices range from $35-$100. General Admission $35; Students/Seniors $30 and Friends of Hedwig tickets for $100 and are on sale now at bit.ly/HD-NEXUS or through the website at hedwigdances.com
