In South Florida a quinceañera is something to celebrate! In its 15th edition, the Daniel Lewis Dance Sampler keeps its promise to present a season opener of the local dance community in spite of the uphill funding climate facing arts groups. On Saturday, October 18, at 8:00 pm, there will be select performances from seven of South Florida’s best dance companies, with awards given out to the region’s leading media and journalists, and a reception preceding the show. The full evening takes place at Miami’s New World Dance Theater.

From ballet to modern, contemporary to flamenco, the Sampler showcases exciting short pieces and excerpts, and launches the season of dance in South Florida. This year’s program features a diverse group, including Arts Ballet Theatre, Ballet Flamenco La Rosa, Cuban Classical Ballet, Dance NOW! Miami, Dimensions Dance Theater of Miami, Karen Peterson and Dancers and the New World Dance Ensemble. The Daniel Lewis Dance Sampler is produced by the Florida Dance Education Organization (FDEO) in collaboration with Miami Dance Futures, Dance NOW! Miami and New World School of the Arts.

The Dance Sampler will also include awards to honor the South Florida media outlets and journalists who regularly cover the arts and dance performances. Awards will be given out during the show. “The role of journalists in a free society is a critical one, and even more so in covering a field like dance,” said Diego Salterini Co-Artistic Director of Dance NOW! Miami. “We are so pleased to be honoring our press partners as we celebrate our 15th Anniversary – these writers keep our field alive in the public eye.” Organizations, and their editors and writers, being recognized include ArtBurst Miami, English and Spanish editions, Miamiartzine; and WLRN-Radio.

The free reception open to all ticket holders with drinks and light refreshments begins at 7:00 pm.

Tickets for the Dance Sampler are $25 general admission, $15 students and can be purchased in advance at www.dancenowmiami.org, or in-person on the evening of the performance. The New World Dance Theater is fully accessible and is located in downtown Miami at the New World School of the Arts, 25 NE 2nd Street, on the 8th floor, with nearby garage parking.
