Instil

Sydney's School of Creative Arts will present Instil this September at the Glen Street Theatre.

Instil is a showcase of dance and choreography designed to bring a sense of peace and truth to a wide audience. Instil aims to touch and inspire audiences with dance performances that are both bold and beautiful. The performance will not only showcase the major work of SCA's Third Year Students Hannah Johnson and Kate Handle, but be a collaboration between 9 choreographers and 10 dancers, including Belgium born, renowned European dancer Mike Van Loon.

This performance will mark the fourth year of Instil, originally envisioned as just a demonstration of major work that developed in a community dance project with a unique purpose - to take dance to the people and allow dancers to develop a performance in their own right. Dancers are not only assessed on the performance of their major pieces but are responsible for the direction, oversight and planning of the entire event. Having to work with lighting, sound technicians, and theatre teams, SCA's students are no longer just dancers but directors, learning valuable skills that they can take into their artistic careers. Instil encourages the development of both professional and upcoming dance artists and establishes a platform for emerging and established choreographers in a professional theatrical environment.

'Instil will bless audiences, and instill a sense of peace and beauty', says Kathleen Paratt of SCA.
