Faculty member of Urban Dance Centre Rosa Agius painted the perfect picture for the success of Urban Jam 2008 Full-time Graduation stating, “there is nothing better than watching a student grow throughout the year and then see them bring life to a piece that you have created. Urban Jam’s stage was the canvas, the choreographers the brushes and our amazing students became the paint. The tools to create the artwork that is dance.”
Each piece performed at Urban Jam was the result of a culmination of artistic talent at work. With a high calibre listing of professional dancers and choreographers who call Urban Dance Centre their ‘home base’, the showcase put forward at the Seymour Centre on Friday the 19th of December presented tertiary dance at a high level.
Urban Dance Centre’s full-time students have the opportunity to become inspired by a host of Australia’s leading industry professionals including Juliette Verne, Tiana Joubert, Nacho Pop, Rosa Agius, Marko Panzic, Travers Ross, Jesse Rasmussen and Veronica Beattie throughout their one year intensive course. Similar to painters, Urban Dance Centre students are provided with a palette of colours within the dance world including the genres of Hip Hop, Theatre Jazz, Lyrical, Ballet, Contemporary, Popping, Locking, Krump and Acrobatics.
The concept of the ‘triple threat’ is considered essential for those dancers who aspire to gain a competitive advantage in an industry that is constantly evolving. The audience were treated to a program of dancing, singing and acting. These three facets of the entertainment industry may allow an individual to be deemed versatile and assist with career longevity both nationally and internationally.
Friends and family were kept entertained by special guest Nacho Pop who acted as an MC for the night, along with Graeme Isaako, recognised for his success in the first series of Australia’s So You Think You Can Dance.
