This summer, on Friday evenings from June 16-July 14, Bryant Park will showcase a series of performances highlighting fresh, original and innovative artists in the contemporary dance realm. The modern dance performances are curated by Tiffany Rea-Fisher, and ballet by Donna Salgado.

The two styles will alternate each week, beginning with an evening of ballet on Friday, June 16, with performances by David Fernandez’s Some Dance Company, Da’Von Doane and Artists of the Shift, Bennyroyce Dance and more. Other companies featured throughout the month include HopeBoykinDance, The Ashley Bouder Project, Limón Dance Company, CONTINUUM Contemporary/Ballet, Bryn Cohn + Artists, Kate Weare Company and more. A full schedule is below. Performances are free, open to the public and run 6-8pm.

“There’s a rich community of artists in New York who are so dedicated to their craft, and I want to give them exposure in this beautiful space in the center of the dance capital of the world,” Salgado says.

On how ballet can be contemporary, she adds, “Indie ballet makers are creative, risk-taking and inherently contemporary by taking things into their own hands and creating works that reflect the world today.”
